Following proper form for the intended function of our actions is a critical endeavor.
By maintaining proper form and function, we can reduce (perhaps even eliminate) injuries, feel better in our “own skin”, move more freely, and maintain an honest and open relationship with ourselves, our surroundings, and others.
While an in-depth understanding of kinesthesiology and body mechanics may not be necessary to achieve our goals, a working knowledge of our body absolutely is.
You have to know yourself.
Because, even though we may not be aware of our actions, we will be the product of them!
In general, body mechanics (the form our actions take) is much the same for everyone. As humans, we share a very similar physiology.
On a personal level, however, the way each of us moves is unique. Our body structures and alignments are as individual as we are.
I find it helpful to appreciate the fact that everybody is different, and every body is different.
Understanding that our postures and body alignments are distinctive to each individual helps us appreciate and acknowledge two very important concepts:
The "How" and "Why" of our movements and actions.
Remaining conscious and deliberate in our movements allows us to observe proper form and function, understand the “How” and “Why”, and be centered and balanced in our actions.
“Centered Form - Balanced Function”
So, in your daily practice, be aware of your body, your movements, and how you physically relate to your environment.
Feel strength and harmony in your actions.
Utilizing form and function, along with the other methods discussed here, can help us live and move more freely, genuinely, and happily.
